If you have children in your home, what sort of sofa should you choose? With kids in the house, you probably need more seats. A 1 seated sofa is not as cost effective as a 3 seated sofa. You need 3 single seated sofa to seat 3 people as compared to just a 3-seater. The price of 3 single-seated sofa is significantly less than the price of a 3 seated sofa. That means, for a large family, you would save substantially if you go for the 3 seated sofas as compared to several 2 or 1 seated sofas.

One way to see the best value is to calculate cost per seat of that sofa.
For a single seat, the cost per seat is just the price.

For a 2-seated sofa, the cost per seat would be price divided by 2

For a 3 seated sofa, the cost per seat would be price divided by 3

and so on.

The best value would be the sofa with the lowest cost per seat, everything

else remaining the same.

Next, consider the dirt factor. I mean, kids, with their tendency to jump on the sofa, would dirty the sofa

very quickly. Not only that, they would eventually break the springs in the

sofa. You could train the children not to walk, jump or play on the sofa. But it

is wiser to get a sofa set that can withstand the stresses a kid would bring.

For one thing, the sofa would get dirty very quickly. A darker color would be

more practical. Leave a white sofa in a home with naughty kids and you’ll end up

with a gray, or eventually black sofa over time. Dirt shows up so obviously in a

light colored sofa. On a dark colored sofa, the deep color hides the gray or

black dirt stains. You don’t have to clean it so often. It will still look good

months later.

Eventually, you still have to clean the sofa.

Our first sofa was a beautiful fabric sofa. It turned a dull gray over the

years. As there were no slip covers, we would have to wash the sofa with an upholstery

cleaner or to leave it be. On the hindsight, sofa sets with removable slip

covers would have been the better bet.

Today it is perpetuated by the Caporali firm. Caporali was founded in 1885 when Lorenzo Caporali opened a small workshop in Santa Mama, Italy forging tools and utensils.

Their collection focuses on beds, but also includes an assortment of tables, chairs, armchairs, light fixtures and various other functional accessories for the home. Nowadays, the Caporali family handcrafts iron products that are known throughout Italy and Europe for their excellence and matchlessness. Their original designs are a perfect blend of old world and modern styles inspired by renaissance, liberty, and art deco, effortlessly complementing any decor from traditional to modern.

Their wrought iron or as they like to say “blown” iron is the result of continual research giving us in the present-day craftsmanship tradition of wrought iron. It is treated through methods handed down from generation to generation with well established trial and error workshop testing. It is created manually by age-old workmanship techniques and antique tools. It is distinguished by its unmistakable fire punch marks and is maintained by usage, lasting longer than time itself.

A sofa bed, usually also called a sofa sleeper, is one of the most tempting pieces of furniture to consider buying, especially when living space is at a premium.

The sofa bed provides comfortable seating for the den or living room while doubling as a spare bed for guests. Few other pieces of furniture can claim such duality of purpose.

A lot of sofa beds have come out in different designs and styles. This includes concepts and materials used in the production of one. But the Wedge sofa bed includes something different. Banking on modern design and demanded comfort, the Wedge sofa bed offers a bold and fresh approach suitable for people looking for functional and stylish design that people look for today.

The sofa bed of the past is ancient history. New sofa beds are extremely comfortable and luxurious. Plus you have the additional knowledge that you can place one anywhere you would normally put a sofa or a chair. You do not have to have an extra room in your house devoted solely to guests.

Before you want to purchase a sofa bed, there are some factors to consider. One inherent problem with a combination sofa and bed is that it rarely performs both tasks equally well. There may have to be some compromises made in exchange for versatility. It may help to consider what a sofa bed’s primary function would be in your particular home environment. Some consider a sofa bed to be a couch first and foremost, with the added bonus of emergency bedding. Others may consider the bed to be just as important as the sofa, since it will be the main bed in the home. Before shopping for a sofa bed, know what your particular priorities are.

As many amateur movers have discovered, a sofa bed can be surprisingly heavy. The folded bed frame, springs and mattress add significant weight, so you may want to consider allowing professionals to move it into your home. Some furniture stores may charge an extra fee for this service, so ask first. Otherwise, plan on enlisting the help of two very strong volunteers. It’s also important to measure the dimensions of the sofa bed and the planned route into your home. Many older sofa bed models were built to different scales than today’s narrower apartment complexes and townhouses. You might be able to remove the legs for added clearance, but sometimes furniture is simply too big for the proposed space.

How to test out the sofa bed

Pull the bed frame out several times to make sure the mechanism is solid and reliable. Sometimes a used sofa bed will have noticeable damage to the frame or springs. Lie down on the mattress as you would any other bed. Many people dread sleeping on a sofa bed because of the thin mattress and the legendary support bar.

High-end models may have much thicker mattresses and a redesigned frame to eliminate the need for the traditional backbreaker. Some guests may actually prefer to sleep on the sofa instead of the fold-away bed. Again, deciding on your particular priorities beforehand may help you find a comfortable sofa, a comfortable bed or hopefully a combination of both.

When choosing and buying your sofa, it is important to consider many factors in order to meet your need. So don’t even think about shopping for one until you’ve read our essential guide!

1. Planning

A plan is essential for nearly every successful purchasing program. A sofa is an important buy, so planning is essential. Make sure as well as measuring the area where you want the sofa to go, you also measure doorways and the width of corridors. If you have small doorframes or not a lot of room to manoeuvre, look for sofas that have removable legs or arms. Also bear in mind that once the sofa is in your room you may not like it in its chosen spot, so have a back up and make sure you measure that space too. A good idea is to make a template out of newspaper to ensure a perfect fit.

2. How Many Seats?

The size of sofa you need will depend on how many people are going to sit comfortably on it. It may be that you have a large family or regularly entertain, so think carefully about this when deciding whether to purchase a two or three-seater sofa. Three-seaters are invariably more comfortable as sprawling out is always an option!

3. What Kind of Sofa?

Corner Sofas:

Corner sofas are great if you have a small or awkwardly shaped room. They immediately free up more central space – but only if you have carefully measured up, ensuring that doors and windows can be opened comfortably. Corner sofas usually come as modular units, which slot together and give you added flexibility.

Tailor Made:

It may be the case that you just can’t find the sofa you want. If so it may be worth considering having a bespoke sofa made. More stockists than ever now provide a service in which an expert will come to your home to discuss exactly what you want, and weigh up the options available for you depending on the style of your room.

4. Loose Covers

If you have small children or are prone to spilling things yourself, loose covers will be your saving grace. Most loose covers can be washed at 40 degrees although they should never be tumbled dried as this could cause shrinkage. Many sofa stores stock loose covers in a range of colors – perfect if you want to update your living room on a budget. If you’re happy with your initial choice of style, fixed covers offer a more tailored look, but will need to be cleaned in situ.

5. Color

It may seem obvious, but the color of your sofa is hugely important, especially if you intend to buy a more expensive sofa. While that lime green sofa fits your living room scheme now, it may not in a few years time when you want something a tad more subdued. Neutral colors will never let you down on this front and, if you’re prone to changing your scheme, they can be easily updated with cushions and throws.

When you are buying furniture for a new design or remodel, where do you start? I usually recommend starting with the largest and most expensive item, which, in the case of a living and family room, is usually the sofa. The sofa is usually a focal point, the seating area most often used, and, if the wrong choice is made, the source of the most complaint. It’s important to chose the right sofa style and size for your design. You have several choices to explore:

a. Traditional sofa. The scale of the traditional sofa (in form, not in style) is usually from 6 to 8 feet, although longer sofas can be custom made. The average sofa fits three people comfortably and is the piece most often chosen for the living room.

b. Convertible sofa. This sofa can be converted into an extra bed for guests. The newest convertibles have an inflatable mattress, making the bed more comfortable than in years past and ensuring your company will stay longer – which may or may not be a pleasant circumstance.

c. Love seat. This smaller version of a sofa will sit two people and is perfect for smaller rooms. For more seating in small rooms or even as a conversation area in larger room, two loveseats can be positioned facing each other.

d. Divan. Think backless sofa. It is usually placed against a wall with pillows added for comfort. A version of this sofa with one side angled to recline is called a “fainting couch” – ideal for those with a more delicate temperament.

e. Settee. This is a form of loveseat. It usually has a wood frame, open arms, and an upholstered seat. It is considered more formal (and usually more uncomfortable) than a loveseat and sits a bit higher.

f. Sectional sofa. A 9 to 16 foot sofa separated into several sections that can be repositioned to fit the room. Its ideal for large rooms or large families that need seating for more people. Some styles have reclining sections. Sectional sofas are wonderful if you have a contemporary look in your home and enough space to handle a large couch. Good quality sectional sofas can be quite expensive, but they’re a good value as you can get reclining features or even sofa-bed and coffee table features built right into the sectional.

Whichever style you choose for your family, there are several things to consider:

* Will the sofa fit through the door?
* Will it satisfy your occasional guests?
* Will it overwhelm or underwhelm the room?
* Is it constructed to last?
