This Chippendale Camel Back sofa from Smith & Watson is made in England and covered in hand rubbed English leather, with brass nail trim.
Founded in 1907 by Richard Smith and Alexander Watson, Smith & Watson was quaintly referred to as “a London furniture shop in New York.” In the early 1940s the company was purchased by the late John Ryan whose sons, John P. and Robert, would later follow him into the business. Today the members of the third generation of Ryans are very much involved and so it is still very much a family business.
Their design and drafting department enables them to work closely with designers and architects to create traditionally correct pieces that are both highly functional and exceptionally beautiful. Since the mid-seventies, they have supplied furniture for the highest level corporate boardrooms and dining rooms. Clients can supply as little as a rough sketch and a description of their needs and from there a concept and eventually a final design can be achieved.
