Shaver-Melahn Oak Sofa

oak sofaHere is a Shaver-Melahn oak sofa. Each piece features unique details which emphasize the distinct beauty and skillful use of rich materials resulting in objects of great comfort and glamour. The entire collection, which now numbers over 100 pieces, is hand crafted and made to order.

After several years of designing custom furniture for his Interior Design clients, Rick launched his own line of furniture at the 1998 International Contemporary Furniture Fair under the company’s name, Shaver/Melahn Studios. We have been very fortunate with this venture and today the line is represented by five showrooms around the country and consists of more than 100 designs including case goods, lighting and upholstery. The furniture is now prominently placed in collections such as the Stanford University Library, The HBO Offices in New York City, The Smithsonian and The William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library.

Classic moderne lines inspire SHAVER/MELAHN STUDIOS’ collection of furniture, lighting and accessories. Design specialist, Susan Yelavich, recipient of the prestigious Rome Prize and former assistant director for public programs at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and who has also compiled a comprehensive book on 20th century design for Phaedon Publishing recently wrote the following about Rick Shaver and his work: “Rick Shaver has an unusual degree of flexibility to adapt to specific field requirements and to fill unmet market niches. In the context of American furniture, Rick Shaver’s work is in the tradition of Billy Baldwin and Tommy Parzinger, both known for their quality and design. Research and development are as key to Rick Shaver’s design process as it is to his success as a furniture designer who is continually evolving within a trusted aesthetic.”
