This picture shows a Chic Teak Sofa from Antiquarius Imports. Antiquarius Imports is a quality driven import company and sponsor of Afghani Weavers, offering the Valley Of A Thousand Hills™ Collection of naturally dyed rugs and carpets woven in its own atelier, from its base in New York City and Taos, New Mexico. Antique rugs and carpets, textiles, solid wood furniture as well as African art and decorative accessories are also offered.
This, the most visible part of the business is the result of laborious long term efforts of many groups of people in Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India all working together toward a common goal. The result of the efforts of numerous people from different countries have aided consumers and collectors alike.
At Antiquarius we understand that these people are not just helping us find amazing things; they are also giving us something of themselves. To achieve these goals in a positive manner and maintain these relationships are the guiding principles which direct Antiquarius Imports. A continued commitment to designing and creating outstanding carpets with unique designs from natural dyes and unbleached wools rests hand in hand with this commitment to issues which affect the lives of the people who are integral to Antiquarius.
Founder and Owner, Conan Brooks, travels to Africa, Asia and Europe sourcing unusual antiques, furniture and objects to import to the US. He has been working with contacts developed over decades if not generations, through family contacts. He is committed to the collecting and exhibition of tribal arts in general as well as collating a documented art history in the field of tribal rugs. Conan also lectures, consults and advises collectors as well as consumers.
As a 5th generation dealer trained in London and South Africa, Conan Brooks formed an affinity for and began collecting rugs in his early teens. He selects and vets thousands of examples buying only the choicest pieces. After many years of experience he has learned the best sources, what constitutes the best quality objects, what and when to pay as well as how to get these treasures back to home.
Ivelisse actively promotes Antiquarius’ vision of sourcing and designing unique objects and assists buyers and the trade in incorporating them into modern urban living environments. She has been instrumental in presenting our weaving project, antique rugs, collectables and furniture to the trade through both traditional and non-traditional marketing channels including television interviews and editorials. With a multi-cultural background and a degree in international relations (being fluent in five languages helps) Ivelisse works with wholesalers, individuals, as well as marketing and media outlets. With her high regard for these authentic objects, the knowledge that these objects can enhance our homes with positive energy , Ivelisse is strongly committed to Antiquarius’ vision.

That is one dropdead gorgeous peice of wooden furniture – there’s a Thai furniture place just down the road from where I live and they have nothing that looks anywhere near so stylish!
